Minutes for January 27, 2006:
3:30pm: Meeting convened. Search party sent to find students who were unaware of a change in the meeting location.

3:35pm: Search party returns, discussion begins on upcoming outreach and social activities.

Jess and Ashton reported on two upcoming outreach opportunities. First, any SLC members who are interested in volunteering can help to judge projects at a middle/high school science fair at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) on the afternoon of Tue. Feb. 21, and all day Wed. Feb. 22. We would likely need to depart around 5:00pm on Tuesday and return later that evening, and will be needed from 7:30am to 4:00pm on Wednesday, though Dr. Biggerstaff said that last year judging was done by 1:00pm Wednesday afternoon. A signup sheet was passed around for those who were interested.

The second outreach project that was discussed was giving weather talks to local boy and girl scout troops. A signup sheet was distributed for those interested to note evenings on which they would be available to give talks; it appears that talks can be given either by individuals or by small groups of two or three.

3:45pm: Discussion of upcoming social events. SLC currently has a budget of $500 to fund social activities for CASA students. Update on bowling and pizza: now scheduled for Sat. Feb. 11th at noon at AMF Lanes on East Lindsey. All CASA participants were invited to come, but only SLC members will be paid for out of the SLC budget.

Elaine gave an update on ticket information and game days for the OKC/New Orleans Hornets, and a group consensus was reached to tentatively schedule a social event attending the Hornets game on the evening of Apr. 14th. Tickets will likely cost either $10 or $20, and at least some of the expense will not be covered by SLC.

Other ideas for possible social events were mentioned, and included a movienight, mini-golf, and a games night.

3:55pm: Nate breifly discussed the planned opening of an SLC website, which if you are reading these minutes, you have undoubtedly already found. It was agreed that the website should contain announcements and a calendar, as well as event details, SLC general information, and meeting minutes.
